Timothy Massad, Research Fellow at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and the former head of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Cesare Fracassi, Associate Professor of Finance at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and its Director of Blockchain Initiative. He is also the former chief economist of Coinbase.
Amin Shams, Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University, whose research focuses on market manipulation and cryptocurrencies. He recently co-authored a paper titled “Is Bitcoin Really Un-Tethered?” in the Journal of Finance which addressed market manipulation of Bitcoin.
The panel also includes leading legal practitioners including Gregg Steinman (McDermott Will and Emery, moderator), Steve Abramowitz (Vinson & Elkins), Doug Spelfogel (Mayer Brown) and John D’Amico (Miller Buckfire).
The panelists will analyze 2022’s largest crypto failures — FTX, BlockFi, Three Arrows Capital, Voyager Digital and Celsius Network — and will address their crypto asset valuation parameters, forensic data sources, trading models, likely stakeholder recoveries, failures of internal controls, current and likely future regulatory controls, and corporate integrity and governance protocols in order to understand how these virtual currencies rose and subsequently collapsed.
